Welcome to the blog!

Hello guys!

I thought we could use this blog to write about some of the issues related to young adult literature and novels we are reading. I'm thinking we will post 2-3 times per week. Let me know if you have any ideas for posts/questions.

For this first blog, I want you to tell us about one the "best" books you've ever read. I don't necessarily mean your favorite--but what do you feel was one of the best--"Best Written" or "Best Story" or "Best Message" or "Best Evil Character" books you've read?

You choose what "best" award to give it, but be sure to explain why!

Mine is "Best Book that Made Me Cry." It is Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas by James Patterson. It is a story about a mother/son--and it will really surprise you. It is very unlike most of his books, and I highly recommend it for anyone who needs a good cry!

So what's your "Best"????

  1. I think the best books i have read lately were the Privilege series. Th first one was just called Privilege and the second one was called Beautiful Disaster. I give this series the "Best page turners". These books always kept me wanting to read the next chapter to see what happens. After i finished the second book it ends in a way that totally surprised me and made me wanted to hunt down the next book, which i haven't found it yet.

  2. Best twisted ending!

The best book i ever read was Jodi Piccoult's "Plain Truth" I absolutely love this book! It is about an amish family and one morning a dead baby is found in the barn. It is a big mystery but a love story at the same time. It talks about family and love and tradition of the amish family. It goes threw court trials and a young woman trying to prove that she did not kill her baby when everyone around her thinks she did. This book keeps you guessing who killed the baby and you don't find out till the very last page, it is very good and very entertaining everyone should read it

  3. One of the best books I've ever read was Impulse by Ellen Hopkins. The story line was really good, but what I really liked was the way it was written. It's told by all three of the character's point of view. Throughout the book it changes up who's telling the story and keeps you on your toes. The ending was great because I didn't really expect it to end the way it did.

  4. My best book is probably Such a Pretty Girl, this book is really good and the author did a good job of allowing you to feel the way she did and how every time her father came around the emotions she felt, along with what was going on in her mind. The story line of this book was also very good and very typical everyday.

  5. Best Imagination, Eragon Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. This book creates a whole new world for the main character Eragon. The land is ruled much like the ways of middle ages with the fantasies of Dragons, magic, and mythical creatures. The author took the time to even set out his own rules for this land he created that are much different than all the other books that have the same content in them. For example he presents the boundaries of magic as the amount of energy you can exert, just like physical exercise.

  6. My book is the "Best Book Message". It is called the Last Song by Nicolas Sparks. At first it has many drama issues and family problems of a girl and her father, but as the story continues you can see a strong bond they create. Towards the end there is a huge surprise and it allows you NOT to put the book down.

  7. Best Story Line- Harry Potter. Because of the imagination that J.K. Rollins put in the series. It was one of the series that I would start reading and have trouble putting the book down. I could also read the series over again and find that I still can't stop reading them. Rollins also put just the right amount of detail in the book. She didn't put so much detail that the book got boring but she put enough that you got a detailed picture of the setting.

  8. I'm commenting on Elisabeth's comment. I'm reading plain truth right now and it's really good so far. I haven't finished it yet, so I don't know about the ending, but I'm sure it'll be good.

  9. Best Book to Keep You on the Edge of Your Seat"

Mine would be The Alex Rider Series, By Anthony Horowitz. These books kept my interest the whole time, there is never a dull moment. If he is not fighting someone he's trying to find intel or survive some natural thing that's after him. These books are great read for guys and I highly recommend them to anyone who loves to read about spies. The cool thing is that he's only 14.

  10. The very best book that I have every read is The Host by Stephenie Meyer! I have recently finished it. It is hard to explain because I am afraid I'd give away the ending, because it will surprise you! I really didn't expect it to end the way it did. This book is well written the first 4 or 5 chapters are pretty slow but once you get into it you can not seem to put it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone.

  11. Best Overall Book
The Outsiders- is my favorite book! Its set in like the 60s and there is a gang war going on. The rich kids are the Socs and the poor kids are the Greasers. The story is told by a boy named Ponyboy who tells you about the greasers and how hard there lives are. Throughout the book you learn how these greasers, who are seen as mean, are really nice. You learn how they all have hopes and dreams but sometimes they have to give those up to help out others. I really enjoyed this book and think others should read it.

  12. One of my favorite books was A Great and Terrible Beauty. It's about a teenage girl named Gemma Doyle who attends a boarding school in 1800's London. But you later find out that Gemma has this ability to enter different realms. She and her friends go on all of these adventures in and out of the realms that have surprising twists! This book, and series, had me reading non-stop! Definitely a page turner.

  13. I'm commenting on Austin's post- I completely agree with best story line for the Harry Potter series, I absolutely loved every book and all the detail that the author put into her books to help guide her readers through Harry's life.

  14. The best book I've probably ever read was Hate List. The book was written very well, with the newspaper articles and everything included. I give the book "Best Emotion Puller," because it pulls many different emotions out of the reader. The author really showed the emotion that the families and the main characters were feeling, and you feel like you are actually involved in the situation also. It made you want to keep reading, and not put it down until you find out what has happened next.

  18. Commenting on Austin's blog post...I have to agree with him that the Harry Potter series does have the best story line. most of the series that I have read don't stick to the same story line, or something gets off track to where I don't understand it anymore. They are very well written books.

  19. I agree with Austin about the Harry Potter series and how they really did create a visual as you read it which made it to where I just didn't want to put it down. I enjoyed all of the Harry Potter books and reading them was something that was part of elementary school for me.

Harry Potter is super awesome! There is always an awesome adventure that the author created. The way she writes makes you feel that you are there with the characters. Love them!

  21. I have to agree with all of you about Harry Potter. I was sad when I finished the last one, because I knew I was going to miss it so much. I can only hope that another series as great as that one will come along eventually...

  22. The book with the best suspense, would be "Untouchable" by Kate Brian. This book keeps you interested and wanting to know more as soon as you start reading it. There are many assumptions you will make but be surprised as to how the ending occurs.

  23. I agree with Kiaya on choosing "The Outsiders." It is a really good book and has a it of action drawn in with suspense.

  24. Tweak is one of the best books I have ever read because it is an actual story about somebody's life, it isn't like most books of its type. It is very interesting and is super easy to read. I would pick the book for most entertaining, because it is very entertaining throughout the whole book.

  25. "A Child Called ‘It’" by Dave Pelzer was one of the best books that i've read. It was about a young boy getting abused by his drunkin mother. She was a awful mother to her son she had mistaken for an IT. Though I hardly ever get into reading books this story caught my attention. This also is a biography. If you like drama, heart breaking, unbelievable stories i recommend this book for you :)

  26. One of the best books I think I have read is A Child Called It By Dave Pelzer. It was defiantly a page turner! Its about a boy trying to survive the abuse from his alcoholic mother. I felt like the author did a very good job at making you feel the pain the boy was going through, the fear of every time his mom came around.

  27. One of the best books I have ever read would have to be "If I Stay". I would give it Best Book You Cant Put Down if that counts as one haha. 31. Well, I dont really read much so the only good book that came to my mind is Killing Mr.Griffin. I give it the Best Page Turner award. There have not been many books that I have read that I didn't want to stop reading and this was one of them. I was constantly wondering what was going to happen next. I was just imagining how scary it would be to be in their place, expecially innocent Susan. She wasn't very involved in the beginning but at the end was very involved when she didn't even mean to be.

  32. Im commenting to Brittany's post about "Such a Pretty Girl". I loved this book also. The way the author sets out the girls attitude for her dad allows you to get a feel of being in her shoes. It was such a good book and I would recommend it for others.

  33. I'm commenting on Kiaya's post. I agree with her about The Outsiders. I liked it a lot and it was one of the few books that I actually did not dread reading.

  35. One of the best books I've ever read was If I Stay, it was a wonderful book and i actually cried. I give it the "Best Page Turner Award" haha but it was definitely a good book because I felt as if I was actually in the story of what all was happening, it definitely caught me

  36. I agree with Kayla, on the Hate List. I loved this book a lot also, it caught my emotions that's for sure and I just loved it all around too.

  37. Im commenting on Samanthas post.
I ahve also read the Last Song by Nikalaus Sparks. I loved this book because it is something a lot of teenage girls could relate to because of the family problems and drama. It definitely has a good message.

  38. The best book I think I have ever read has to be Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. It kept me interested right up to the very end (which is not common for me). It is about a girl that went to a party over the summer and was raped. The new school year starts and nearly the whole school hates her because she called the cops (no one knows that she called them because she was raped) and got everyone at the party in heaps of trouble. That's all I'm going to tell you, because I don't want to ruin anything for you. I would highly recommend this book to others.

  39. I've had some trouble picking out my best book but one that comes to my mind right away is Chew On This. It's definitely one of the most informative books I've read. It's all about the truth behind what goes into preparing fast food. Although it can be very gross at times and it's a little difficult to get into, the information this book has to offer makes it worth reading.

  40. I am commenting on Samantha's Post.
I have read the Last Song also and i loved the book. I just loved the way the main character changed and learned so much. She had alot of attitude problems and didn't want to listen to her father but they begin to gain a great bond.

  42. The best book I've probably ever read was definitely harry potter, even though pretty much everyone has commented about it. I haven't read many books though but I'd give Harry Potter "The Best Book Series Ever Award." It had a great story line and was well told in great detail. I love the book as well as the movies, but obviously the books were better.

  43. I haven't read too many books,
But for me, the book with the best message is The Giver.
    I feel that
The majority of people need someone to be a leader.
The majority of people need community.
The majority of people need to have someone to rely on.
    Society can be a luxury.
But it can also feel like an infinite prison.
I want to go as far as I can on the sidelines to find my own truth.
I don't want to be led along a path.
The Giver reminds me of my overwhelming responsibility
    to myself
    to be a wanderer.
